Requests are not problem statements
Customers often begin with a feature, technology, or deadline. The forward deployed engineer must identify the operational decision underneath the request before designing anything.
Freight operations leadership asks for a “real-time risk dashboard.” That phrase leaves the user, decision, action, acceptable latency, evidence requirements, and consequences of error undefined.
COMMON FAILURE
Treating executive language as a complete requirement and immediately drawing the dashboard.
